DIY Fashion Workshop, Bangkok

December 5, 2017 - It was the late King's birthday and so was declared a holiday in Bangkok.  My Do It Yourself Fashion Workshop, which is part of the program of BangMod Creative Community Festival 2, was thus scheduled on this day.

In the morning, I met the 10 workshop participants - 10 young ladies from the Muslim community in Zone 4, the largest of 5 zoned areas in the Thung Khru district of Bangkok that is covered by the festival.

As requested of them, the ladies brought a few of their own clothes for the workshop.  We customized these clothes during session.  One of the participants helped the other in customizing her dress, with each of them working on a sleeve. Another pair of participants did the same, also both taking a sleeve each.  In this workshop, the participants - young buyers and wearers of clothes - got to wear the designer's hat.

Unexpectedly, one of the harder requests came from the youngest participant.  She wanted to make a patch in the shape of a cow and grass.  Lucky that another participant was game and took on this challenge (and I was glad to delegate the request to her!).

Mix Wandee and another 3C member (3C stands for Cycle Canal Community) assigned for Zone 4 were the ones who set up and coordinated for the workshop. My heartfelt thanks to them and to the participants.

After the workshop, we went for an all-female boat ride on the canal ... a splendid boat ride with one of the participants working the motor and another out front as the look out.  Good to see the can-do attitude of these young ladies.  It's the same attitude behind the DIY fashion.

Here's to keeping in touch!
