DIY Fashion Workshop, Kuala Lumpur

The 3rd DIY Fashion Workshop.  This time with a group of theater students in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- from the Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA, or can be translated as Academy of Culture and National Heritage).

Fun! Every workshop I have given so far has been rewarding and fun.  I am never sure what sort of clothes participants will bring into the workshop.  This particular group all brought T-shirts with them -- and so it was a DIY T-shirt workshop.

I encouraged them to experiment with their T-shirts.  Most of them already had a design in mind.  With me was Jemintan Basiran who also guided the participants in executing their designs on their shirts.  A clothing designer herself, Jemintan formerly worked in ASWARA.  Much thanks to her for her invaluable help in this endeavor.

There were 3 participants who worked on goth-inspired designs for their shirts.  Another featured his own illustration and poetry on his shirt.  While another experimented on a design for a costume for traditional dance.

They worked on their own pace.  There were 2 participants who took their time exploring various ways to customize a T-shirt.  Seeing them go through the process, I learned a few tricks also on how to further fine-tune the DIY Fashion Workshop.

Two examples here of DIY fashion created by the participants during the workshop.

This one made me want to head home and make a shirt like that myself. :)

I was impressed by this one.  Seeing him wear what he made, the shirt was spot on, working quite well with the rest of his look.

A final group shot with these young folks ;)
